Maltfabrikken

Discover a unique cultural house in the middle of Ebeltoft. In Maltfabrikken you can learn about the local history of the market town, local authors and see the best view in all of Ebeltoft. Various great experiences await visitors across the three floors.

A library, a museum and an archive inside the Maltfabrikken

At Maltfabrikken you’ll find the town’s library, museum and historical archive all under one roof. These three institutions work closely together to tell the fascinating story of Ebeltoft and the surrounding area.

Our spaces are spread across three floors of Maltfabrikken, each floor named after a part of the factory's history. Each level features its own unique form of storytelling and a special library section.

The ground floor houses the children's library, alongside exhibitions about the working-class life and childhood in earlier times.

The second floor offers non-fiction and biographies, telling the story of Ebeltoft as a historic market town.

The third floor focuses on the history of tourism and features our fiction collection.

We offer a wide range of exciting activities for children. They can borrow books from our special Maltazar lending machine or go hunting for the small Maltmice hidden throughout the building.

For adults, we offer an audio walk that guides you through our museum displays and takes you on an exciting journey through the history of Ebeltoft.

If you want to learn more about Maltfabrikken itself, visit Lillekølle, where a short film tells the story of the building – from a small backyard malt house to the modern cultural centre you see today.

You can also explore several digital installations:

The map terminal, offering a historical overview of three different eras in Ebeltoft’s history.

The landscape model, illustrating the area's geological and historical development.

The podcast terminal, where you can listen to unique stories about local authors and enjoy a glimpse of the beautiful views from our floors.

All this and much more awaits you at Maltfabrikken – we look forward to welcoming you!

Admission is free at Maltfabrikken.
