The Old Town Hall

Visit an idyllic old building, which is located in the central square of Ebeltoft.

If you are visiting Ebeltoft, be sure to treat yourself to a visit to the beautiful old town hall in the heart of Ebeltoft's historic district. Here, you can learn about Ebeltoft's history from the Stone Age to the present day. You can also try the royal quiz or visit the old dungeon.

Located in the middle of the old town of Ebeltoft, the old town hall was built in 1789, roughly on the same site, where the first town from 1576 stood. The building was in use until 1840 when it became too small to host the administrative issues. From 1840 until 1909 it functioned as a private residence, and the town’s guards and firefighters had a guard room here. Even more a lending library was also housed for a while. Since 1909 the old town hall housed the Ebeltoft Museum.

Today, the exhibition tells the story of the market town of Ebeltoft from the Stone Age to the present day.

In the old prison cellar, you can experience for yourself how dark, damp, and cramped it must have been to sit here. Perhaps you'll hear a faint moan or a rat scurrying across the floor?
